Final Seara Update!

Well, today we had the dreaded VCUG. In case you didn't get what that was before, pretty much its a test to see if the urinary system is working properly or if the person has urinary reflux to the kidneys (that's bad). Angie tended Elijah during the four hours I was gone - so nice to have a live-in babysitter! :) So we checked in, did all her vitals (she was uber upset as soon as she SAW the nurses - you can only imagine how she reacted when they actually touched her), and then we had to wait a bit for the doctor/room to be ready. As soon as they were ready it was time for the IV. Lets just say it took four nurses and two pokes in each arm before they were able to get the IV in. Once they did they gave her two meds through the IV - versed and ketamine in case you actually know anything about meds. One is supposed to pretty much make it so she forgets every thing - including getting the IV put in. The other usually knocks out adults, but they don't give that much to kids since it would be dangerous, so they pretty much make them so they are super drowsy. Well, the regular dose wasn't strong enough, so they gave her a second, which still wasn't strong enough, so they gave her a third, and finally she was pretty out of it. Anyway, they did the whole catheter, fill the bladder, and x-ray various times to see how her urinary tract system was working. Unfortunately, the anesthesia started wearing off much before they were done and for the last few x-rays four nurses had to hold her down. So, so sad! Once things were all done, though, she was so relived and quickly fell asleep in my arms. We had to wait for her to wake up and make sure all was well before we were discharged, but soon enough we were on our way! She slept all the way home, and is still sleeping now (two hours later). Hopefully the memory stuff really works and she remembers none of this! She'll be sore for a couple days, but Seara is a trooper and rarely complains, so hopefully she'll be okay!


Now, the good news of this whole ordeal is that it looks like everything is working perfectly - no urinary reflux, and therefore no tendency towards getting urinary tract infections, no medication for years and years, and no surgery necessary. Your prayers worked, guys! So, thanks.
