The day the General Authority laughed at me.

He had noticed me before. How could he not? The member of the First Quorum of the 70 had recently moved in kitty-corner to us and had quickly became a permanent fixture on the sacrament meeting stand. Looking down on the congregation it would be impossible to miss the constant wrestling that happens on our bench. He had even flashed me a few understanding smiles. And then last Sunday it all came to a head.

We were asked to stand, and remain standing, as we and many others received callings to serve. If there weren't so many people being called it might not have been a problem, but there were a good dozen of us and it was taking a long time. There we stood, Samuel holding Elijah, and I holding Enoch. I'm not sure how it happened, but the next thing I knew Enoch had a fist knotted and tangled in the hair of the woman sitting in front of me. I tried to look as poised and normal as possible as I struggled to untangle the hair with my left hand, raise my arm for sustainings with my right hand, and whisper urgent apologies to the woman who was having her beautiful Sunday 'do quickly destroyed. In the midst of my predicament I looked up to the stand. There he sat, looking down on my situation, stomach bouncing and face beaming, in a quiet chuckle.

Well, at least someone benefited from my plight.

Ha ha! So what callings did you get? And who was it that Enoch attacked?

Cara - We were called as Nursery Workers. We're really pleased, since we end up having to spend most of our meetings in the hallway with Enoch anyway, so now he has something to do. And it was Angie Lloyd. She was nice about it. :)

Ah, standing up in front of everyone. The joy. They should have just said, "Brother and Sister Ricks, would you lift your kids up so we can watch them squirm? Thank you!"

You know, he was probably thinking "I remember when that happened to me..." which is why he was laughing. :)

Good luck with the new calling. I love the nursery.

So funny :) You'll love the nursery. We were in there when Addison turned one, so she got an early start :) It was easy to leave her when she turned 18 months, because she was already use to it.

Oh, man! That's priceless! Will we ever know which one he is?

Brooke - Probably not, unfortunately! I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I also want to respect his privacy. Plus, I'd hate if he googled his own name and this came up! ;)

Totally made me laugh, and feel better that I'm not the only one who has everyone's eyes on her crazy kids during sacrament meeting.

Priceless.

Good thing it was Angie...she's seen it all, I'm sure. :)

Great story Janae! I have thought the last couple of weeks at church that people without kids probably watch us and think it is way too hard to have kids! They are SO squirmy! I hope you can come tonight!

Ha ha...I love it! I'm sure general authorities have seen so many things happen in church--isn't it nice to know you can keep him laughing!!

Love the story! But I'm curious too who the GA was...I'll check my sources ;) So does this mean you'll be in nursery with Julie & Seth or were they released and I haven't heard that yet? Have fun anyway and thanks so much for sharing your stories! :)
