Well, I just had a first: I actually celebrated Halloween as an adult.
Sort of.
If you call taking the kids to four apartments to trick-or-treat celebrating.
I'm not much of a trick-or-treating person. I think it stems back to my first Halloween in Utah. I was 9. I had lived on islands or the equator my whole life, and had never experienced true cold before. That year I went trick-or-treating for too long. When I came home I was frozen stiff. My head had never hurt so bad. Looking back I swear it was like a migraine. I laid on the couch and cried until I thawed. It took hours. At least it felt like hours. I've never liked Halloween (or cold) since.
But two days ago as I was leaving my apartment complex I passed our across the hall neighbor. He asked if we were going trick-or-treating on Halloween. I told him I didn't know yet. And he announced that he and his wife had bought candy for our kids just in case we did go. How sweet is that?? So we went. Not for the kids. For the neighbors.
First, I went around to all the apartments on the floor (there are 8 other than us) to hand out candy for people to give to the kids. Four were home, two didn't have candy. Just what I thought. Then we took the kids out. I don't think they quite got it. Between each door they wanted to sit down and eat the candy. But you should have seen all my neighbors dote on the kids! The Asian ones even took pictures. (Isn't that so stereotypical?! :) It was worth it just to see the neighbors so excited!
The best part about Halloween, though, was the all-day dress up game we played. Here are the outfits they wore yesterday:
My four month-old is the only one that looked and smiled. Classic.
My aunt Carol made these crayon costumes years ago for her girls.
This morning Elijah announced that he wants to go trick-or-treating again. You know, that wasn't so bad. I think maybe we will do it again. In a year. :)

Cute! Carol's crayons are darling. And it's funny. I knew I had given you the orange turtle neck, but for some reason I thought I had seen the spider one recently, so yesterday I spent a few minutes searching for it until I finally gave up. Glad you found it for me. :)
They look great in their costumes! We have a few neighbors that gush over Mary as well. It is nice when you are far away from Grandparents that would be doing it otherwise.
That is so cute! I love the matching crayone costumes and that one even fit Enoch!
YOu had multiple costume changes like we did! HOORAY! We aren't the only crazy people! The kids look cute!
Very cute, and very fun. I'm glad you took them out. Even if it was for the neighbors!
Funny that I was at home studying all day and didn't even know that you had put the kids in their costumes!
I'm so glad you went trick or treating. It makes me so sad that so many people dont anymore. Your kids are adorable!
Your kids are so darn cute! That is fun that you guys went trick or treating in the apartment.
Jaide was looking at Enoch at church today and telling me that he was Kiree's friend because they're babies. And then she told me that she loved to go to your house. The Risk-es house as she says. To differentiate I guess :)
The crayons are so cute! I love it :)
so cute. My three older sisters were crayons way back in the day. I love the picture with the three of them on the couch!
Your kids are so cute. I love the crayons!
Come to AZ for Halloween one year you'll love it. 90 degree weather makes all those warm Halloween costumes stifling.
I love that you played dress up the whole day. You are so smart to go ask the neighbors if they had candy. I would have just gone around and been embarassed when they didn't have any. A lot of what we make kids do when they are young is for the adults not the kids. Like Charlotte cares that she's dressed up for Halloween, she not even 2 months!
I loved the Peter Pan theme last year. I have a Tinkerbell costume I could use again but Charlotte would be a much cuter Tinkerbell than me. I love Elijah in the flower hat. That kid cracks me up. Almost every post he's wearing something girly. He'll love all those pictures when he's older.
I LOVE the crayons, and I can't believe someone made those! Obviously there are people way more talented than me out there. We tried to go for the Peter Pan theme this year, but when it came down to it, Russ and I were too lazy to do anything - so it was just Captain Hook and Peter Pan.
I love how the neighbors were so happy to see your kids! That is so cute. All the costumes are adorable. I'm glad you had a good experience trick-or-treating and are considering doing it again. :)
