When I met Sam he was completely granola. He drank power protein drinks for breakfast. Everything he bought was fat free (and tasted like cardboard, I might add). And he ate brown rice and wheat bread. I know. Weird.
Okay, okay, it's probably not weird to everyone. But to this white bread, white rice, full fat, milk shake girl, that was weird.
Well, as soon as I graduated from BYU, I became the full-time homemaker. And the full-time cook. Which meant I got to choose what foods we ate. Power protein drinks - OUT! Anything that said 'fat free' or 'low fat' - OUT! Brown rice - OUT! Wheat bread - [hesitate] ... well, I felt bad ousting everything. You know, marriage is about give and take. Sam gave up everything else, I ought to take up something.
And that is how I became a wheat eater.

You're so good. I totally can't do the wheat bread thing. Only for tuna sandwiches. For that, I LOVE whole wheat, crunchy bread. But, other than that, I've gotta have white, and it even has to be the air-bread variety. No substance. Silly me.
Wheat bread is the best! I'm not talking cheap, might as well be white, I'm talking hearty grainy yummilicious wheat bread. Have you tried Great Harvest? Down with white bread.
I love the term granola! I buy wheat bread- but I secretly wish it were white! I like homemade wheat bread but who doesn't? I wouldn't mind wheat bread as much if it didn't have chunks in it. You know what I mean...oatmeal on top, barley chunks in the bread kind of thing. I don't want my bread to have chunks. I guess I'm the opposite of my sister!
Matt has recently started making both of us protein shakes for breakfast. They are chocolate flavored and he adds in fruit so they taste almost exactly like a milk shake. So now I'm a fan... as long as I don't have to make it! I tell Matt all the time if I'm the one cooking I'm gonna cook what I like. If you want to cook you can cook what you like! What a mean wife I am. I do make more Mexican than I like for him though. Matt won't hardly touch something that's fat free. As long as it tastes the same I don't care.
I think in my younger years we had white bread at home but I know for sure my mom was buying wheat bread by the time I was in high school. And since then I've bought, ummm, maybe, 2 loaves of white bread! I love wheat bread and brown rice. I think white rice has no flavor (although white rice is better for hawaiian haystacks!)But protein shakes are a no go here. Fruit smoothies for breakfast? You betcha!
I love your random posts. What inspires them?
We like wheat bread. Though for some reason I don't buy it much. But I think it's yummy. :)
that is funny! hey Ben has an idea for a guitar brand and wants to see if Sam might be able to put together a few logos...do you have an e-mail or # Ben could get ahold of him? Thanks
I only buy wheat bread. I think I am the only one who likes it. . .Well, it's really the only thing that my kids know, so they are kind of forced to like it! My evil plan is working!
I think wheat bread is delicious! But, there are only a few store-brand kinds that I like. Homemade wheat bread is the best. I agree with one of the comments above ... Great Harvest wheat bread is soo good!
I used to hate wheat bread & fat free and all that kind of thing and I thought people were weird who did eat it. Now I have become that weird person!
Sam's email is samuelricks at gmail dot com. Have Ben drop him a line!
It's so hard to find a wheat bread that has enough fiber in it to make it worth it and still doesn't taste like cardboard and dry out your mouth like you're actually eating cardboard. I found a Sara Lee version of wheat bread that was great and relatively inexpensive (yet another stipulation) and then they hiked the price up on me! GRRR. Thankfully, I found a store here that sells wheat bread that it almost the same as the Sara Lee, but is wayyyyyyy less expensive. I just keep praying that it stays that way.
Oh the dumb little things we get to worry about in this life!
Do you drink whole milk? I thought I was the only one left in the world who did that "sinful" thing!
I used to! The doc wanted the kids on 1%, so we did that for a couple months. When we got here we started on 2% since that's what my mom buys. But I still prefer whole! :)
