Still haven't resolved my camera issues. My darling visiting teacher (the mom of 10 - remember? I wrote about them the first week we were here) lent me her video camera for the trip, and we used Sam's cell phone to take pictures. (Yeah, we don't have a camera - our video camera took really good pictures, so we never bought one. Now you see why the video camera breaking is such a big deal??)
OCEAN CITY
Population: 7,173 - Elevation: 7 ft - Land Area: 4.6 sq/mi
Ocean City is an Atlantic Ocean resort town that is basically a tiny peninsula - it is 9 miles long and only a couple blocks wide! If the ocean keeps rising this place is dead. But that is besides the point. My only complaint is that it is three hours away from us. I know. I thought we lived on the east coast too. We are right next to Chesapeake Bay, but three hours from the ocean. Yuck. So we left at 7:30am and got to the beach at 10:30. Anyway, Ocean City is supposed to be crazy in the summer - hence we waited until after Labor Day to go. It was really nice for us - there were enough people to make it interesting, but not so many that it was nuts. And even though we went so late in the season, it was still pretty warm - about 78* during the early afternoon when we played in the water, and only got cold later on when it didn't matter. Man, just writing about this and looking at the pictures makes me happy. I love water. I love beaches. I love bathing suits. I love, love, love everything about the ocean!!

This was Samuel's first time seeing and swimming in the Atlantic. It was only his fifth time seeing the ocean. Perhaps it is because I lived on small islands for seven years of my childhood, but that seems soooo strange to me! He saw the ocean for the very first time when he was on his mission in Chile. He saw it for a second time - and swam in it for the first time - when we were engaged. His third time was on our honeymoon. His fourth was during our vacation to Cali last summer. Weird. Anyway, because of that he and Elijah were the perfect companions - both are fascinated by the waves and water.

We could not keep Elijah away from the water!! I can't wait to make our September movie, just so you can see him run to the water every time we pulled him away. He would just stand (or sit) on the sand, wait for the tide to come in and wash all over him, and squeal gleefully. And he did it for FOUR HOURS. Luckily the water was really warm. (Warmer than our complex pool, amazingly.)

Seara, on the other hand, touched the water ONE time. The wave coming in and hitting her scared her and she never went back. She was pleased as punch to stay on land and play with sand.

Enoch's favorite part was looking around at all the new sites. He's only two months old, what did you expect?
As soon as it started getting windy and cold we went walking on the boardwalk to see the classic tourist stuff (kite shows, carnivals, etc). It was interesting to see, but I would hate to be here during the busy season!

What a fun day! You guys do so many fun things together. I think my sister Marti has the same swim suit. Don't you love Tankinis- all the coverage without the whole going to the bathroom dilemma? You look great! I would be scared to live there...elevation 7! That's not much. I hope you figure out your video camera thing soon. Thanks for the blog comments- you're always so sweet and funny.
Looking (or being) taller than him is not a bad thing. Come on! I'm not a huge fan of getting all dirty and sandy at the beach, but this post made me want to take a vacation there. Hallie's the only one who has experienced the beach and that was as a 1 1/2 year old in Chile. It would be a blast to take them!

I'm also a bit landlocked. My first time to swim in the ocean was after I graduated high school. (Although I'd been to NYC the summer prior.)
But I've swam in California & Hawaii, Florida, South Carolina, & Greece. I'm just not a big swimmer though.
This looks like a totally fun outing. I love that you are experiencing everything the area has to offer.

Ohmygosh!! Memories...memories... I went there a couple times when we lived there. I remember once with my family, and once on a youth trip thing. It was SO fun! We went boogie boarding and flew kites and had water gun fights - wow, I remembered something from like, 15 years ago. Jeesh, does that make me old now? ugh.

I love the ocean too! Growing up landlocked I would write stories and poems about the ocean and when I finally saw it at age 20, I fell in LOVE! I really miss it and hope to go back soon. 7 ft elevation is crazy. Your bathing suit is cute! I hate bathing suits, mostly because almost all the modest ones are ugly. Where did you find yours?
Um....whatever, you were totally posing like a super model. Isn't that what you and I are doing in almost every picture we have of the two of us in high school? Some things never change.
That beach looked sooooo neat. With the carnival and kites and everything. Wow, it's like in the movies! I guess movies just don't take place in exciting places like Utah and Idaho. By the way, I've never seen the Atlantic Ocean and have seen the Pacific maybe 5 times. Yep, go ahead, be amazed (flabberghasted).
Wow it looks like you had a fun time. I MISS THE BEACH!! Enoch is getting so big and is so cute. That's cool Elijah loved the water so much. I hope your camera issue is resolved soon, it is really hard being without one (well, now that we have a kid it is, we never took pictures before).
I hate bathing suits, but you SHOULD love bathing suits - yours is adorable and you look GREAT in it. This seems like such a fun outing. What a blast!
Also, that ALASKA sweatshirt is hilarious. I love mine and wear it all the time. But it makes me think of a really funny story. Remind me to tell you next time we talk.
