Both Samuel and I were surprised at how much we loved Mount Rushmore that first time around. "We should come back again," Sam said as we drove away. I wholeheartedly agreed. And so, two years later, we went back. Rushmore happened to be right between Badlands and Wind Cave National Parks, so we were lucky to hit it in the middle of our road trip.

ps. I hate every one of you for not telling me that I looked like a mushroom head with that short haircut. I look so dumb.

You both have had significant hair growth since last time. :) And I liked your hair short...you didn't look like a mushroom at all.
Liar. But thanks for trying to make me feel better. Yeah, my hair is tons longer. Too bad I didn't have it down in the second picture! It reaches past my um...arm pits.
You do not look like a mushroom head. You have the ability to look good no matter your hair cut. You're amazing! Fun adventures to Mt. Rushmore. We just went this summer and loved it, too. I wouldn't mind going back either. We mostly just saw it, but hope that next time we can take advantage of the trails and other things around it.
That looks so fun! I want to see Mt. Rushmore someday! I think you always look beautiful, but your hair is especially beautiful now!!! :)
Karen - The loop trail that circles the viewpoint is gorgeous, and if you take your time, kids can do it. Seara and Elijah did it all by themselves at 3 and 2, and all three kids did it again at 5, 4, and almost 3.
Wow I sometimes feel like I have been on so many adventures just because you blog about them. Thanks for being so outgoing!
Everyone looks so different! (Mainly Sam!) :) Looks like such a fun trip!
Yeah, no kidding! The rest of the changes are nothing compared to my husband going from a 16-year-old boy to a mountain man!
I love that I'm wearing the same exact pair of shorts.
Count on Sam to pay attention to the details.
It looks like they put a new coat of paint on Rushmore between 2009 and 2011. Sort of a cream color....that's a lot of paint.
Krishele - Maybe that's it. I think it might have rained the whole day/night before we got there the first time, so just assumed that the stone was all full of water (you know, in the cracks), but it was completely dry the second time around. But I don't really know.
