When I realized that were going to have a Blue Moon on New Years Eve, I knew we had to do something cool. We opted for night snowshoeing. What better way to welcome in 2010?!

Since we were already being super awesome with the whole night-snowshoeing-under-a-blue-moon thing, we decided to be really adventurous and walk on water. Off we went across the lake.
(So what if the top layer of water was actually ice?) We even made out a large '2010' with our footprints right in the middle. We thought we were so cool. That is until we hit the middle of the lake, and suddenly we started noticing that the ice was more like slush. After every step our prints would fill up with water. With each new step we'd sink even deeper into the water. I was starting to have visions of one of us plummeting into the frozen lake. So of course, we reacted like calm, rational adults. We ran, scattering like ants in every direction, calling out to one another, in desperate search of hard ground. Luckily we found some ice nearby and came out unscathed! After that success, we decided to throw caution to the wind and we went sledding down the street near our cabin. What an awesome way to welcome in a new year!

I didn't know we had a blue moon on New Year's Eve! Okay, I didn't really know what a blue moon was. Thank you wikipedia (and Janae). Looks like fun. :) I can't wait to try snowshoeing one day. Looks like a blast. And I'm loving Sam's crazy hair in that last picture. :)

Adam and I went out driving to see that blue moon but didn't do anything near as exciting!
Snowshoeing is so fun! But a huge workout! I've only been once on a date with Adam long ago.. and I remember feeling so worn out afterward!
Cara - Ha, ha! As you've probably learned, it's not really blue. Nor is it the New Moon, like many people assume. Just a second full moon in one calendar month. I don't know why I just told you that, since you wikied it. Huh.
Steph - I went snow shoeing on a date once, as well, and I remember it being so tough! But since my dad got a bunch for the cabin I've been several times and never thought it was hard. Basically like taking a really easy nature hike in the snow. Whatever we did on the date must have been tough. That or we just don't go as far or as long nowadays!

Sounds so fun (and a little scary there in the middle)! I remember when I went show-shoeing thinking what hard work it was. It was fun, just hard. I bet going at night was pretty cool.
Wow. You guys are way more daring than me! I have a huge fear of drowning (thanks to so many failed swim tests...lol) which gives me an "Iron Will"-like fear of water, even the frozen stuff. However, it is one of my life goals to go snowshoeing! I seriously want to pick it up as a winter hobby. Keeping fingers crossed for this next winter (when I'm not pregnant.) It looks like you guys had so much fun!

Derek - That is a great question. Obviously we need to make a trip to California to visit you. First, get a job. Second, go to the Oakley Store. For the record, Sam's jacket is one he bought before his mission (yeah, he's waaaaaay overdue for a new one), and mine is a NorthFace one that I was given by a friend. So it's not like we actually bought these recently and dissed Oakley. ;)

Um, I went to bed at 10:30 on New Years. How lame do you get when you have little kids??
(But in our defense, we were in California and were getting up early-ish the next day to hit Sea World.)
Shels - That is a legit excuse, if you ask me. The last couple New Years we've gone to bed early as well. But since we were at the cabin, and my parents offered to tend, and Liam is young and adventurous, we were brave. Things just added up right. :)
Cute! What fun! We should try that sometime...and we actually still have time to try it, since we've got lots and lots of snow.
But our ice rink has melted, so we don't get to be all holy and walk on water. ;)
