Let us review.
On November 19, 2007, I posted this:
- On my mission I was asked if I was 14.
- At a party this summer someone guessed that I was Lissa's younger sister (I'm three years older).
- While running our half marathon this summer, a woman running by and chatting with us [Sam and I] asked if we lived in the same apartment complex. She was shocked to find out we were married. She was even more shocked to find out how long. She was floored when she realized we have two kids. [Parenthetically, I was actually pregnant with #3 at this time, but I didn't know.]
On July 14, 2009, I posted this:
- Highlight of floating the Provo River: Floating along with my 16 year-old brother Liam and the kids, and getting compliments all along the way from fellow floaters and fishers on "what a cute family" we were. Apparently the 10 year age-difference and amazing family resemblance wasn't so obvious.
- Highlight of swimming at the pool: Two teenage girls, standing next to my mom in the pool, having the following conversation about Liam from a distance:
Girl 1: Oh, I know that kid, he goes to my school!
Girl 2: Let's go talk to him!
[Liam walks over to me and starts chatting.]
Girl 1: Oh no! He's with his mom.
[They wimp out, and instead casually walk by us and set up their towels where they can stare safely.]
- My question: I look old enough to be his mom?! Three days before I was his wife, and now I'm his MOM?!
Today I'll add this:
- A couple weeks ago Liam had friends over and one of them asked if I was Liam's mom. Hello, I'm only 10 years older than he is. I would been pregnant at 9.
- Liam told me the other day that I was "past my prime." I was shocked. I thought your twenties were your prime. I don't even want to think about what my 30s will be like if I was already past my prime in my twenties!
- Then at story time the other day I had this conversation...
Lady: Are these your nephews?
Me: Um, no. They're mine.
Lady: [awkwardly] Oh... you just look like you're 15.
Apparently my age is very confusing. I look old enough to have birthed a 17 year-old, and yet young enough not to be a mother at all. Old people think I'm young, young people think I'm old, and I just think I'm confused.
For the record, I'm 27.

When I only have the baby with me, people ask me if he is my first. When I respond with the fact that I have 4, they cannot believe it.
Rachel - That surprises me not at all. You do look pretty young. :)
That is pretty funny. :)
So funny! It seems to be when you have siblings that are over 10 years in age differences you get this more often. For the record, you don't look like you could have birthed a 17 year old... that person was crazy!
That was my computer's fault for all the deleted comments... SO SORRY! :(
No worries. I've done that before - where the computer wigs out and posts your comment three or four times. Oops! :)
It's because of your timeless beauty. :)
Jennifer - Timeless beauty! Ha, ha! You are so witty!
That is an interesting predicament to be in all the time. I think you should totally play it up and use it to mess with people's minds! Think how much fun you'd have! hahahaha!
You know, this reminds me of one time that my very young looking brother (like mid-20s) decided to try an experiment. He's super healthy--and he looks it--but he took a cane and walked all hobbledy into a restaurant. He didn't even try to change his voice, but everyone treated him all special and called him "Sir." Hah!
I don't know, I personally forget my age a lot. I'm still young, but I forget that, too! This morning, I really couldn't remember if I'd turned 22 yet. I had to ask Michael.
Oh yeah, and for the longest time I forgot that Ender hadn't turned 2 yet. :|
So if I met you, I'd probably make the silly mistake of thinking you're MY age (whatever it is that day), and then I'd get along with you fine.
That's how I feel about all my sisters, who range from 19 to 30-something (see, I can't even remember THEIR ages).
That's fascinating! People only ever tell me that I look older than I really am... not so wonderful to always be hearing that.
Maybe you should get your shirts embroidered with that! "For the record I'm 27." Of course you'd have to do your swimsuit too apparently!
Really I can't tell what age most people are anymore! Sad, I know. I haven't really gotten any comments about age as of late. Not too long after I had Andrew, a member of my stake presidency thought I was a laurel.
For the record, I really don't think you look old enough to be Liam's mom....heck you don't even look quite old enough to have 3 kids....one, maybe. :)
HA HA HA. I love how those girls chickened out cause they thought you were Liam's mom. That makes my life.
For the record- I think you look and act your age. Ha ha :)
People are clueless. That's why I never say anything unless I'm sure! A child wearing pink and bows is a girl. A child wearing a baseball outfit is a boy. If a woman wants you to know she's pregnant, she will tell you. It's these few facts that should be common sense for everyone. That way no one is calling my little boy a girl and no one asks how far along you are when you have a 2 month old baby in your shopping cart!
Now your brother, on the other hand, you should smack him (lovingly). He should not be allowed to tell you that you're past your prime. That's just mean!
