When I was a teenager I had a few favorite thinking spots. I think everyone does. I came to that conclusion because I have them, and so does Sam. Therefore, everyone does. Nice cross section of society, eh? Obviously I never took stats in college.
See this little mesa? Unpresuming, right?
This is one of Sam's favorite thinking spots. When he was a teenager he used to run out to this mesa. Driving by it on the highway, you wouldn't think it was anything special. But as you get closer, though, you might see this:
Start climbing and you'll find huge hanging rocks:
Then suddenly there are walls and frames everywhere:
From above you can look down and actually see a light outline of this small pueblo. The home of the Virgin Anasazi people, who emerged around AD 1 and were completely obliterated by AD 1200.
The place is pretty amazing. So much so, that over Thanksgiving Sam convinced all his siblings to venture out there with us. He's nice. I don't share my thinking spots.

WOW!!! Super cool place! And how fun that it's more than just a neat place...it has meaning to Sam. That's just cool. Winslow can't be that bad, right? ;)
that is way cool...is that in Winslow? Man I missed out on some good spots in Winslow...we didn't do or see anything like this!

That's pretty impressive. I'm surprised the government hasn't put a big ol' fence around the area and posted signs telling everyone to stay out, so the past can forever be undisturbed (and unseen) by people. Seems like something the gov't would do...so don't let them know you found it, ok?
I don't share mine, either-- I was thinking that really IS nice of Sam!

Ally - Yeah, it's in Winslow. On the right side of the highway on the way out to the dump. (But still far away from the dump. You can't see it, smell it, anything. It just happens to be off the same highway.)
Krishele - Ha, ha! If you haven't read Paige's comment, there actually is a fence. But the gate is never locked, so I take it as a sign that they don't want cars in but allow people. Hopefully I'm right!
Paige - I wait every day for the phone call from Joe. But I guess you must be more anxious than I am!
Very cool spot. That bumped Winslow up a little in my estimation.
-I can totally tell which ones are Sam's siblings and which ones are in-laws. How funny!
I want a thinking spot like that. Pretty amazing. Especially considering what it looks like when you just drive by it.
Too bad PMS isn't here. He could tell you where we went, and I don't remember even the State it was in. But we got to wander around the Anazazi (sp) houses, whereever it was. Incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Sam's "thinking spot." In one of the comics in the Deseret News the woman has a tree that she leans against where she's troubled. Love you.
